Introducing Life Orientation teachers to the local Chamber of Business
22 August 2016
In July 2016 SchoolTrade and the Department of Basic Education (DoBE) in UMgungundlovu (KZN) proved the strength of PPPs (Public Private Partnerships). The partnership collaborated to provide specialist training for 50x Life Orientation (LO) teachers in the district. What made the training especially significant is that most of the teachers represented 50 of the worst performing schools in the district.  

  
From Trainees To Trainers through BBBEE

Two years ago a Pietermaritzburg - based agricultural development company Zylem CC started making BBBEE contributions. They chose to support a local (black owned) training enterprise called Qhakaza CC. Last week the wheel turned full circle whenQhakaza was able to present a workshop on Goal Setting for staff members from Zylem.  
  
Tool Making

The TDM Powered programme is one of South Africa's skills - development success stories. The programme is part of the National Tooling Initiative Programme (NTIP) and its aim is to train highly skilled toolmakers for the South African manufacturing industry . Tool making is a skilled and well paid profession and graduates of the programme are in great demand in South Africa.  
  

Partnerships in Career Guidance

Effective school-based career guidance requires partnerships with the wider community. For the past three years the Electronics Manufacturing industry in the Msunduzi region of KZN has successfully engaged with hundreds of learners from under-resourced schools in Pietermaritzburg.

Over the past 12 months SchoolTrade has trained over 500 KZN career guidance teachers. The training has helped teacher to implement eight critical skills, all necessary for decent school-based career guidance.

Nortech International Earns BEE Points!

There were high -fives all round when Pietermaritzburg-based Nortech International was recently awarded their ED and SED BEE points. After a rigorous verification process the BEE verification agency, Integra Scores, were satisfied that Nortech’s investment in the Izandla Careers Club (ICC) had met all the BEE requirements.
